Enter the Rest

Our dog Rosie is an expert at entering the rest.  Nothing bothers her when it is rest time.  She can rest without a care in the world.   I have learned a valuable lesson from Rosie.  Rest (without a care in the world) is a key ingredient to the peace I need after I have prayed in faith with right motives and to the best of my ability.  I find that the next battle step is to “Enter the Rest”.  I recently shared with the congregation one method of entering the rest that works well for me.  It is to go to my “happy place”.  I discovered my happy place when my wife and I used to travel on the road for 10 to 15 hours at a time with a crying two year old in the car.  Driving under that condition was stressful to say the least.

But I soon learned that I could go to my “happy place” and shut out all external noise and voices and find peace…a peace that transcended all understanding (especially to my wife).

This ability now comes in handy when I have prayed and the enemy tries to come at me with lies to steal the word that God has given me regarding the prayers I have prayed.  I simply re-quote the appropriate scripture of promise, remind the devil of his future when he tries to remind me of my past, and then promptly return to my happy place of “REST” in the word of God without a care in the world.

I believe this is what the bible describes as laboring to “Enter the Rest”!  (Hebrews 4:11)

Thank you Rosie!

  1. Rest is such a simple concept, and yet it can be so elusive. How different would our lives be if we could just take Jesus at His Word and trust in HIs promise to take care of us? Thank you for pointing us in the right direction, Pastor Jeff.

  2. Pastor Jeff, thank you for sharing.
I need to learn how to go to my happy place when in the middle of a storm.
to know “it is well with my soul”.

  3. The last thing we think of usually in the time of need but the one thing God gives us when we trust in Him… to enter the rest, REALLY believing He is who He says He is and He can do what He says He can do and WANTS TO! He loves us so much and is SO good. Thank you Lord!

  4. Great word Pastor Jeff. Not only I but people really need to learn how to Not only enter into the Rest but to remain there.
Thank you for this encouraging word.
